SIHH Quarto giorno: Vacheron Constantin e Ralph Lauren

lussuoso SIHH di Ginevra guardare fiera rotoli su. Ecco un assaggio delle nuove uscite da altri due dei marchi espositori.

Vacheron Constantin ha sollevato un sacco di sopracciglia quest'anno con la sua decisione coraggiosa e inaspettata (almeno per quelli di noi nella stampa orologio) per mettere a fuoco i suoi 2013 novità SIHH interamente su donne. Questo è corretto: non una sola nuova release da Vacheron di quest'anno è orologio da uomo. Fortunatamente per il gentil sesso, pezzi delle donne che il marchio ha introdotto hanno un po 'di qualcosa per quasi tutti i gusti, con le novità delle collezioni Patrimonio, d'oltremare, e Malte così come un intero nuovo trio di Métiers d'Art orologi.

Il tema del gruppo d'Art Métiers di quest'anno è "Florilège", i cui quadranti sono incredibilmente intricati dipinti in miniatura di fiori esotici. Tutti gli orologi sono nei casi in oro bianco da 37 mm con diamanticornici per completare i quadranti mozzafiato, che combinano guilloché , grande smaltatura feu e diamante impostazione. Sono tutti alimentati da meccanico, manuale-vento calibro di Vacheron 4400 e hanno ottenuto il Punzone di Ginevra. Nella foto qui sotto sono i tre pezzi: giglio bianco, regina, e la Cina Limodoron. Solo sarà fatto il 20 di ogni. Il prezzo in euro è 93.500.

Il più vistoso delle offerte di patrimonio è questo Patrimony Contemporaine con un ambiente full-Pavee diamanti sul quadrante e sul caso lunetta e anse. Il movimento in questo è Calibro automatico di Vacheron 2450.

Oltre versioni dei prodotti per sole donne di Vacheron, l'altra introduzione SIHH che ha avuto ospiti ronzio nelle sale del centro congressi Palexpo di Ginevra è stato il primo orologio tourbillon da un marchio che pochi avrebbero previsto di rilasciare uno, almeno così presto nella sua relativamente giovane esistenza : Ralph Lauren di orologi e gioielli . Alla fine ho avuto modo di vedere l'orologio ieri (è nella foto in basso nella sua custodia presentazione). Il caso ha la finitura canna di fucile elegante che Ralph Lauren introdotto lo scorso anno nel suo Sporting collezione. Il cinturino è in pelle marrone bello usato da Ralph Lauren nei suoi accessori di moda. Il movimento (le cui origini erano in un primo momento un argomento di speculazione tra gli intenditori di orologi alla mostra) è un movimento tourbillon microrotore da Fabrique du Temps, una società svizzera specializzata in complicazioni elevati. Il prezzo dell'orologio sarà anche alzare le sopracciglia: una miseria rispetto a $ 55.000.

Preview: Szanto Watches

When you first see one of the new Szanto Watches, you may not recognize the brand, but you might find something reassuringly familiar in their retro design. The name is decidedly old world, and the watches have a warm, vintage charm with colors and textures that create the illusion of patina. There is a bit of post-war field watch, some WW2 aviators' influence, and perhaps a touch of pre-war American pocket watch in the mix. It is an attractive collection, made all the more so by its price. MSRP ranges from $195-350. So with that introduction, you are probably asking the same question I did: "What the heck is a Szanto?"

It is a new venture by industry veteran, Barry Cohen. He is a co-founder of the immensely successful Luminox brand; however, Szanto is a completely independent company. Consider it his "solo album," if you will. The idea came when a friend of his showed him a vintage watch that he had just purchased. "I loved its character," Barry explained, "and he suggested it might be a good idea to contemporize old designs for today." The name also has personal significance. "We had a list of about 20 or 30 names but none were really sticking out," said Barry. Setting them aside, he suggested Szanto (sahn-tow), an old family name of Hungarian origin.

The Szanto line incorporates several elements to create vintage style watches at a budget friendly price. The entire range uses workhorse Miyota quartz movements to minimize cost and maintenance, although Barry does not rule out the possibility of a hand wound model in the future. They are significantly larger than most vintage pieces. Well into the 1960's, the majority of men's watches were smaller than 38mm. Through the 1950's, cases hovering around 30mm were not uncommon. Charming as they may be, not everyone can pull off a nickel-sized wristwatch. The Szanto line maintains more contemporary proportions. "It does seem that case sizes are finally getting a bit smaller than they had been," he says, "but I doubt we will see very small sizes again. Our mission with Szanto was to offer the look of yesteryear with the size of today's timepieces. So ours will not be very small pieces, but rather mostly in the 42 - 46mm range."

The designs borrow liberally from a broad range of pre- and post-war watches, incorporating such details as coin edged bezels, onion crowns, and poire squelette hands. Colors are muted: black, grey, tan, ivory, and olive. There is precious little bright white to betray their newness. Indices are grey and tan, like aged lume. The straps are weathered canvas and leather. Barry is particularly fond of the distressed elements and the patina effect they have achieved. The only real deviation from this formula are the 5000 series dive watches, which share the muted tones, but have a more contemporary appearance. A second dive series is currently in the works for a September release. Barry describes it as "a vintage rugged dive design and 500 meters water resistance on either a water proof leather strap or solid link bracelet."

The current range includes the 1000 and 1100 series field watches; the 1200, 2200, and 2250 series pilots watches; the 2000 series chronographs; and the 5000 series divers. There are 22 models currently available and another 17-20 due by year end. June will see the release of five new lines, including three models with an antique bronze finish. "We looked at using solid bronze but it was a bit too expensive for us to hit our target price and remain affordable." Barry explained, "So these are steel with a bronze plating and have a nice mottled aged appearance." 

Szanto sent a healthy selection of watches to Time Bum Laboratories for hands on evaluation, and I will be posting comprehensive reviews in the coming days. They arrived in watch boxes that resembled steamer trunks, complete with metal bumpers screwed into the corners. Inside, the watches had with brown card-stock hang tags tied to their buckles with twine, further enhancing the illusion. I confess, watch boxes invariably end up at the bottom of my closet, but I can appreciate clever packaging when I see it.

The brand has much to offer. Purists may decry the quartz movements and faux-retro appearance  but not everyone wants the cost and maintenance associated with a vintage timepiece. By incorporating an antique aesthetic into a modern watch, Szanto will likely scratch that itch for many who are not yet prepared to dive into the vintage market, and may provide a gateway into our hobby for those who appreciate an old fashioned look, but currently rely on their cell phones to tell time.

The watches are available for sale at a number of stores and online retailers. The Szanto approach is certainly intriguing, and has produced some great looking watches. IWC Schaffhausen Top Gun Pilot collezione di orologi accoglie nuovi membri

Abbiamo ricevuto una grande notizia da IWC Schaffhausen. Il marchio di indicazione dell'ora è ora riferito migliorare la raccolta Top Gun pilota con nuovi e raffinati modelli del marchio. I tre modelli di unirsi alla serie sono del Pilot Orologio Cronografo, Watch il Big Pilot e del Big Pilot orologio calendario perpetuo. Inoltre, gli orologi stordimento sono dotati di ceramica (ossido di zirconio), mentre il fondello e la corona sono realizzati in titanio. The Big Pilot orologio calendario perpetuo Top Gun Boutique Edition vanta con indici e lancette rosse, seguita da un intero array di meccanismi di orologeria estremamente complicati.
Ha un display anno a 4 cifre, riserva di carica di 7 giorni e la visualizzazione delle fasi lunari, mentre il calendario perpetuo considera tutti gli anni bisestili secondo il calendario gregoriano, fino all'anno 2100. Si è inoltre dotato di uno dei più grandi automatica avvolgimento movimenti IWC ha mai lavorati - il calibro 51614, con altamente accurato sistema di carica Pellaton.
Il prossimo, del Big Pilot orologio Top Gun Boutique Edition è un assolutamente splendida mix tra gli stili del 1940 e la tecnologia provenienti dal 21 ^° secolo. Essa comprende il calibro 51111, prodotto da IWC, con 311 parti e riserva di carica di 7 giorni. Vanta con indici verdi, mani e una piccola sagoma di un aeromobile che funge da contrappeso nella parte posteriore dei secondi.
Il mio preferito è però del Pilot Orologio Cronografo Top Gun Boutique Edition. Sembra che questa è la scelta migliore per le manovre nell'aria, così complesso come si può ottenere. Incredibilmente guarnito con indici e lancette blu, questo particolare orologio è dotato di una protezione contro i campi magnetici e un vetro frontale protetto da eventuali cadute di pressione. Alimentato dal 89365 calibro di manifattura IWC, si tratta di una riserva di carica di 68 ore al giorno e l'aspetto del segnatempo ideale.
